Dear Editor,
Morgan County has a horrendous cat overpopulation problem. This
year's "Kitten season" is in full swing.
Thousands of kittens have been and are being born across the county.
In six years, one cat and her offspring can produce 66,000 kittens.
The Humane Society shelter is currently housing, fostering or has
on it's waiting list over 100 cats and kittens. Spay/Neuter is the
only way to "stop the madness."
Spay/Neuter is the responsibility of every Morgan County resident owning, housing or feeding cats on their property -- and you CAN afford it!!!
Anyone and everyone qualifies to receive a certificate for low-cost spay/neuter through a program called Spay Today. Nine veterinary clinics work with Spay Today. Go to their website www.baacs.org, or call Spay Today at (304) 728-8330.
The Humane Society of Morgan County still has funds available from the Lend-A-Paw grant and other private donations to assist with cat spay/neuter.
If you qualify as low-income or have feral or free-roaming cats, please contact the Humane Society of Morgan County at 258-5592.
Tell everyone you know to take advantage of these programs.
And please... Spay or neuter animals BEFORE they have ANY offspring.
A female cat can be pregnant at the age of 6 months. A male cat should
be neutered at 7 months - remember, it takes two to tango.
If your cat currently has kittens or has recently had kittens, keep her inside and make her spay appointment NOW before she gets pregnant again.
Remember, Fido also needs to be fixed. Spay Today and HSMC can help with affordable spay and neuter for dogs too.
