Dear Editor:
We recently attended a dinner given by the Humane Society of Morgan County, which
does so much for our county to alleviate suffering of county animals.
I know the Society is a private, non-profit organization, but I was surprised
and disappointed to find that the society receives no funding at all from the
county government to help maintain its facilities and operations. The society
performs a role that, certainly, the county government would have to perform
directly if the society did not exist.
Is this fair?
I urge the Morgan County Commissioners to include some amount in the county budget
to help fund the activities of the society, since count citizens certainly expect
there to be an agency, government or otherwise, to help meet the needs of animals
now served only the society.
