HUMANE SOCIETY OF MORGAN COUNTY URGES COMMUNITY HELP WITH PET ADOPTIONS

Through the tireless efforts of volunteers, a good response in donated items and support from several local businesses, the annual “Yard Sale in the Park”held on Sunday, June 4th raised funds for the shelter and its programs. The much-needed proceeds will help keep the shelter running and things are definitely moving forward for the Humane Society of Morgan County. More volunteers are always needed; especially more community participation to help showcase the animals at the shelter in order to increase adoptions.

“Helping these lovable dogs and cats find new homes is one of the most rewarding aspects of being involved,” stated Susan Lee, Acting Director. To help increase adoptions, volunteers are needed for the shelter’s off-site adoption event team. The team will be responsible for doing the work necessary to photograph shelter animals, to post those pictures on the Pet-Finders web site and to post pictures at local businesses in the county that have expressed willingness to promote animals available for adoption. This team will also help by taking animals to weekend adoption events held at PetSmart, Petco and to set up adoption days at local businesses that have hosted these events in the past. Volunteers are especially needed to serve as team leaders to match the skills, abilities and availability of volunteers on the team to the various functions the team will perform as well as to schedule and coordinate the team’s activities.

Lee is certain that there are people in Morgan County who would be excellent for this team and asks that anyone interested contact her at the shelter at 258-5592 as soon as possible so this team can be organized and start doing the important and gratifying work of helping the animals at the shelter find new homes.
