HUMANE SOCIETY THANKS ALL WHOSE DESIGNATED GIVING PURCHASED NEW BUILDING

The Humane Society of Morgan County thanks everyone whose generosity made possible the purchase of their recently delivered new office and visitors’ center building. It will provide much needed office space, an area for community outreach and animal education programs and a roomy area for visitors to comfortably meet with staff members and complete paperwork. This will also free up space in our main cat building for our staff to provide individual care, grooming, and attention to their “furry residents” and for prospective adopters to meet and interact with individual cats. Prior to putting the new building into use, the Humane Society needs funds to help complete the inside of the new building with insulation, drywall, electrical service, heating and cooling, painting, and flooring. Most of the work will be done by volunteer labor, but approximately $3,000 is needed to pay for the necessary materials.

If you can donate to help complete this project, please send your tax deductible contribution to the “Capital Improvement Fund” HSMC, PO Box 705, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

The Humane Society also thanks everyone who has donated, so far, in response to their Annual Spring Challenge. To date, 183 donors have given a total of $11, 620. This is a little more than one third of the total $30,000 goal for the 2008 Spring Challenge which, when reached, will cover about one third of the annual cost of operating the Adoption Center. The Humane Society receives no funds from local, state or Federal taxes and no support for the Humane Society of the United States. The small, volunteer-run organization depends on the generosity of those who recognize the need for the services they provide to the community for most of its funding. With nearly $20,000 still needed to meet the goal, the Humane Society encourages all who have not yet given in response to the Spring Challenge to consider making a tax-deductible contribution to help keep the Adoption Center operating.

Along with information about the Adoption Center and activities of the Humane Society, a link to Pet Finders and information on numerous pet-related concerns and issues, updates to the Spring Challenge are posted regularly at their website www.hsmc-wv.org.
