HUMANE SOCIETY KICKS OFF 2007 EVENTS WITH JAN 21 VOLUNTEER MEETING
The Humane Society of Morgan County announces that is has rolled into the New Year with a full slate of initiatives, programs, and events. Each month of 2007 will hold many opportunities for the community involvement with many new ways to support the shelter. All interested in learning more about what is planned and ways to be involved are encouraged to attend the Volunteer Meeting to be held on Sunday, January 21st at 3:00pm at the Creekside Creamery.
Community response to their Holiday Hints prompts the Humane
Society to offer these additional hints to help your pets
make it safely through the winter. Because more dogs are
lost during winter than any other time of the year, be sure
to take them out on a leash - especially in ice or snow when
they can easily lose their scent and sense of direction.
If you bath your animals, be sure they are completely dry
before letting them outside. Make sure your companion animals
have warm, dry places to sleep, off the floor and away from
drafts. To protect your pet from frostbite, remove ice and
snow from paws and coat immediately. Frostbitten skin can
turn reddish, white or gray. If you suspect frostbite, take
your pet to a warm place right away. Thaw areas you think
are frostbitten slowly by applying warm (not hot) moist towels.
Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible for further
evaluation. Never leave a pet in the car during cold weather.
A car can act as a refrigerator holding in the cold and cause
your pet to die of hypothermia.
